The first round draw and format for the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier A in Oman has been revealed

The draw and fixtures for the upcoming T20 World Cup Global Qualifier A have been informally announced, with the tournament format and first round draw revealed.

Global Qualifier A is scheduled for the 17th-24th February and will be hosted in Oman. Eight teams will play in the tournament, with two berths at the 2022 T20 World Cup up for grabs. The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four in the first round. The top two teams in each group will then progress to the semi-finals. The semi-final winners will progress to the final, and simultaneously secure qualification to the T20 World Cup.

As disclosed by Cricket Germany’s social media platforms, Ireland, UAE, Germany, and the Philippines will make up one group. Meanwhile, Nepal, Canada, Bahrain, and hosts Oman will play in the second group. Debutants at the Global Qualifier, both Germany and Philippines will play their first fixture against a full member when the play against Ireland.

Although a full fixture list has not been published, Germany have also revealed the dates of their three group stage fixtures. Germany will play Philippines on February 17th, with Ireland playing UAE on the same day. Germany vs UAE and Ireland vs Philippines will take place on February 18th, and Germany vs Ireland and UAE vs Philippines on February 20th. The semi-finals will be played on the 22nd, with the final on February 24th. Fixtures for the group involving Nepal, Oman, Canada, and Bahrain have not been disclosed at the time of writing.

Global Qualifier B is due to take place in Zimbabwe in July. The hosts will be joined by Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Jersey, Uganda, and the USA. The tournament will follow the same format as Qualifier A; however, the first-round groups and fixtures are yet to be revealed.
