Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien will return to the Kathmandu Kings XI for Everest Premier League 2020.

With under three weeks until EPL4, the news came only a day after defending champs Lalitpur Patriots announced their signing of Pakistani trio Hammad Azam and Hassan Khan and left-arm seamer Mir Hamza.

In last year’s Everest Premier League O’Brien was the leading bowler with 9 wickets in his 7 matches and was also among the league’s highest run scorers.

O’Brien is the first of Kathmandu Kings XI’s three mandated international signings for this year’s EPL.

“Kevin O’Brien is world-class player and his leadership qualities on and off the field makes him integral part of the team. Kevin is super excited to come back play for Kathmandu Kings XI” mentioned Raj Jung Thapa CEO of Kathmandu Kings XI.

The first centurion for Ireland in Test cricket, in 2011 O’Brien played what many continue to call one of the greatest CWC innings when he scored 113 from 63 as Ireland chased down England’s mammoth 327.

Rustom Deboo featured this innings in his EC Rewind piece on the 2011 & 2015 Cricket World Cups here.

Turning 36 on March 4, the right-handed Dubliner has played three Tests, 145 One Day Internationals and 93 T20 Internationals for Ireland.
