Three quarter-final spots are locked up in the World Cup of Jerseys after Germany were too strong for St. Helena, storming with majority vote in all three polls.
In the first match of the knockout rounds Scotland fought bravely against a giant in the kit World Cup, though it was the heavy public strength of Nepal that edged things. Bermuda were also too strong for the Dutch 1996 World Cup kit.
In the fourth Round of 16 match-up, it’s Jersey up against Uganda! Before we preview that clash, here is the bracket for the final 16 after the latest result!
Group Stage Summary
Tanzania and Nepal progressed from Group A, while Vanuatu and Scotland 1999 progressed in Group B. The Pink of Bermuda stormed home and Rwanda scraped enough votes across Twitter and Facebook to squeeze through in Group C and Group D was domination by the Dutch, with both the current kit and the 1996 World Cup shirt running away from the field to advance.
Germany took out Group E, topping both the Facebook and Twitter polls, with PNG’s Early 2010s kit overcoming a perhaps more-fancied Afghanistan 2015 effort. Group F saw the current Namibian kit run away in first, with St. Helena causing a huge upset, beating out Singapore by the barest of margins (a single vote!) across Facebook and Twitter polls. Kenya’s 1999 World Cup shirt stormed away in Group G, with the shirt (or jersey) from Jersey took second place across the Facebook Group and the Twitter page.
Note: Jerseys are the current kits used by both men’s and women’s teams unless stated.
Round of 16 Match 4
Jersey v Uganda
Jersey
Imagine the scenes when Jersey take home the World Cup of Jerseys! They may need a boost of votes from those outside the largest Channel Islands, but their mix of dark reds and blues brings a new flavour to the competition. A nice touch is the cross, or saltire of the Jersey flag on the back of the shirt, in a mix of other patterns on the shirt.
Uganda
Red and yellow. Two colours that don’t normally go but my word, Uganda pull it off. A mix of all the tones on their national flag, there’s no mistaking who the Cranes are as they walk out onto the ground. Let’s hope we see some more Challenge League action and yellow kits blessing our streams in months to come.
