We’ve cut half of the field, and move into the knockout stages of the EC World Cup of Jerseys!
In the last group of action, Uganda raced away early with help of a public campaign by the national team’s Twitter, though Japan, also launching their own call to vote, took first place in another tough group.
Here is the bracket for the final 16!
Group Stage Summary
Tanzania and Nepal progressed from Group A, while Vanuatu and Scotland 1999 progressed in Group B. The Pink of Bermuda stormed home and Rwanda scraped enough votes across Twitter and Facebook to squeeze through in Group C and Group D was domination by the Dutch, with both the current kit and the 1996 World Cup shirt running away from the field to advance.
Germany took out Group E, topping both the Facebook and Twitter polls, with PNG’s Early 2010s kit overcoming a perhaps more-fancied Afghanistan 2015 effort. Group F saw the current Namibian kit run away in first, with St. Helena causing a huge upset, beating out Singapore by the barest of margins (a single vote!) across Facebook and Twitter polls. Kenya’s 1999 World Cup shirt stormed away in Group G, with the shirt (or jersey) from Jersey took second place across the Facebook Group and the Twitter page.
Note: Jerseys are the current kits used by both men’s and women’s teams unless stated.
Round of 16 Match 1
Nepal vs Scotland ’99 World Cup
Nepal
Evolving from their smart dark blue and red combination in the mid-2010s, the current Nepal kit has gone unchanged for a couple of years now. Honestly, with something this good, why change something that isn’t broken?
A mix of red with a lighter blue than used in the past, Nepali peaks are thrown into the mix, and all the cliches about Nepal reaching for the summit Everest in their national sport don’t do it justice.
Scotland ’99 World Cup
There is something about flags and adaptations on playing kit, and Scotland went with a similar approach to Kenya at the same World Cup, which they co-hosted.
Gavin Hamilton dominated in the kit, top-scoring in four out five Scotland innings at the tournament, though the Scots failed to taste success in the tournament.
