Cricket Scotland have announced a three-match home series against New Zealand in Edinburgh. The series will take place in the last week of July, featuring two T20Is and a single ODI.

The series begins with the first T20I on July 27th, with the second match on the 29th. A single ODI will take place on Sunday 31st July, with all three matches taking place at Grange CC in Edinburgh.

The New Zealand fixtures constitute the centrepiece of a key year for Scottish cricket, as they look to build on the momentum and publicity of their successes at the 2021 T20 World Cup. Following their ground-breaking win over Bangladesh in the first round, Scotland progressed to the Super 12s of the 2021 event. In doing so, the Scots directly qualified for the upcoming edition in Australia. The two T20Is again the 2021 runners-up offer excellent preparation time for the Saltires ahead of their 2022 campaign.

Speaking in a Cricket Scotland media release, Scotland’s head coach Shane Burger was buoyant about the fixtures:

“We are excited to welcome the BLACKCAPS to our shores this summer. We want to keep challenging ourselves versus ICC Full Members and New Zealand are up there as one of the best. Having reached both of the most recent T20 and 50 over ICC world cup finals, they have proven to be the most consistent team across all formats of the game in recent years.”

The New Zealand series falls between two Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series to be hosted in Scotland, as the Saltires continue their push towards the ODI World Cup qualifier. The Scots home-summer fixture list features 11 games, and includes visits from Nepal, Namibia, UAE, and USA as well as full-members New Zealand.

For the visitors, the series becomes the third leg of their European tour, with the Blackcaps visiting England and Ireland in advance of their trip to Edinburgh. Emerging Cricket understands New Zealand will also visit the Netherlands, with fixtures against the Dutch expected to be confirmed in the near future.
