The T10 revolution continues across the world of cricket, with this time the format landing in Tajikistan in the form of the BetBarter Tajikistan Premier League T10.
As the first time most eyes have been cast onto the cricketing ecosystem in the country, the event presents opportunities for players to develop and enhance a reputation outside of the landlocked nation.
Asadullah Khan, the general manager of the Tajikistan Cricket Federation, recently told Emerging Cricket that “T10 cricket is the best format to build awareness and entertain the local people”, and this tournament presents the prime opportunity to do exactly that. There is the hope that this tournament can kickstart cricket in the country and give the nation momentum during its ongoing development journey.
The cricket federation appears to be one that is optimistic and pragmatic and we now could see the start of a long and prosperous period for cricket in Tajikistan.
The tournament will consist of six teams that complete over the course of 10 days for the title; with the opening round of group fixtures taking place on the 19th July 2020 concluding with the semi-finals and final taking place on the 29th July 2020. During the group phase, each team will play each other twice, meaning that teams will play a minimum of 10 games, which can only be a positive step in the development of both the player’s talents and overall team chemistry.
The group stage should allow each team to find their best line-ups and form to ensure that the best four teams make it to the next stage of the tournament. The top four in the group stage move onto the semi-finals, with the team that finished top playing the team that finished fourth and the second and third place finishers facing off.
The tournament will wrap up with finals day on Monday, July 29 with what is no doubt hoped to be a premier showcase of what Tajikistan cricket has to offer.
