CRICKET IN ISLE OF MAN

The Isle of Man Cricket Club (now the IOMCA) was formed in April 1930 with the object of fostering the interests of cricket on the 221 square mile island, a British Crown dependency situated in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland.

Throughout its history, the IOMCA has regularly hosted teams from the UK and Ireland, and the MCC sends a touring side to the island annually. A giant step was taken in 2004 when they were successfully elected as the 90th member of the ICC. This allowed the national side to compete in the European Cricket Championship for the first time in 2005, when they travelled to Belgium for Division Three, played their first official international match against Greece and later claimed their first victory in a match against Finland.

Eight clubs currently compete in the Isle of Man Premier League (Castletown, Cronkbourne, Crosby, Finch Hill, Peel & St Johns, Ramsey, Union Mills and Valkyres). Junior representative sides are also active, often competing against English counties, and the board organizes an emerging players program to help bridge the gap between youth and senior cricket. The IOMCA are looking to develop women’s and girl's cricket from grass roots level right through to the senior national side.
