The 20-year old Associate poster boy from Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane has been signed by the Worcestershire Rapids for the 2021 edition of the Vitality Blast. This will be his first stint in English T20 leagues and will be available for the full duration of the tournament’s group-stage next summer, the club announced on Wednesday.
Lamichhane has been a global name after having participated in almost every major T20 franchise league around the globe. And so, the club expects Lamichhane to bring a wealth of experience from playing T20 franchise tournaments worldwide.
‘Sandeep has played in many tournaments and gained a lot of experience in franchise cricket. He’s a leg spinner, which is a bit of a mystery spin we believe we need in our squad in terms of balance, so we are ecstatic with the signing. This is his first taste of playing in England, and I’m sure he will do well and have an enjoyable summer with us,’ Head Coach Alex Gidman reflected about his signing.
Lamichhane has had a successful T20 career having already played in the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, Bangladesh Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Afghanistan Premier League, and so on, at an early age.
The legspinner most recently participated in his home one-dayers – Kathmandu Mayor’s Cup where he scalped nine wickets in the four matches he played.
