Tristan Stubbs to join Excelsior Schiedam

As preparations continue for the scheduled start of the Dutch Topklasse on 1 May, Schiedam club Excelsior ’20 have announced that they will have 20-year-old South African batsman Tristan Stubbs as an overseas player this season.

Stubbs, who holds a Dutch passport, made his First Class debut for Eastern Province at the age of 19 in January 2020, hitting 105 against KwaZulu-Natal Inland in only his second match.

In all he has played four First Class games and three List A matches for the province, making 82 against Boland in the Provincial 50-over competition, and this year has been successfully introduced to the Warriors T20 franchise squad, where his best effort was a 31-ball 44 against the Titans.

Stubbs will fit into a relatively youthful Excelsior batting line-up, and no doubt those watching his performances with interest will include Dutch national coach Ryan Campbell and High Performance Manager Roland Lefebvre.

Meanwhile, Excelsior has indicated that there remains a question mark against the name of Lorenzo Ingram, who has contributed so much to the Schiedam club’s successes over the past seven seasons.

Jamaican left-hander Ingram, who has made 3753 runs in his 107 Topklasse matches for Excelsior at an average of 44.68, and taken 141 wickets at 18.30, is currently in the Caribbean, and the Schiedammers are concerned that travel restrictions may make it difficult for him to arrive back in the Netherlands for the start of the season.
Excelsior have also picked up young Rood en Wit seamer Klaas Roelfsma, a former youth international, who has been a regular member of the Haarlem club’s first team for the past three seasons.

He will join a pace department at Thurlede which already includes skipper Tom Heggelman, Niels Etman, Rens van Troost and Gijs Kroesen, so there’s likely to be plenty of competition for a regular spot in the Topklasse side.
