EC World Cup of Jerseys: Round of 16 Match 7

By Tom Grunshaw and Daniel Beswick

Six quarter-final spots are locked up in the World Cup of Jerseys, with the last encounter a landslide victory for the Netherlands over Rwanda.

In the other matches of the knockout rounds Scotland fought bravely against a giant in the kit World Cup, though it was the heavy public strength of Nepal that edged things. Bermuda were also too strong for the Dutch 1996 World Cup kit, with Germany too strong for St. Helena. Jersey and Uganda both garnered great support throughout the 24 hours with the two highest votes of the the competition thus far, though it was Channel Islanders who pushed away late in their matchup. Vanuatu, making the most of their recent public support, brushed Tanzania aside.

In the seventh Round of 16 match-up, it’s Namibia taking on PNG of the early 2010s! Before we preview that clash, here is the bracket for the final 16 after the latest result!

Vanuatu secured their quarter-final place

Group Stage Summary

Tanzania and Nepal progressed from Group A, while Vanuatu and Scotland 1999 progressed in Group B. The Pink of Bermuda stormed home and Rwanda scraped enough votes across Twitter and Facebook to squeeze through in Group C and Group D was domination by the Dutch, with both the current kit and the 1996 World Cup shirt running away from the field to advance.

Germany took out Group E, topping both the Facebook and Twitter polls, with PNG’s Early 2010s kit overcoming a perhaps more-fancied Afghanistan 2015 effort. Group F saw the current Namibian kit run away in first, with St. Helena causing a huge upset, beating out Singapore by the barest of margins (a single vote!) across Facebook and Twitter polls. Kenya’s 1999 World Cup shirt stormed away in Group G, with the shirt (or jersey) from Jersey took second place across the Facebook Group and the Twitter page.

Note: Jerseys are the current kits used by both men’s and women’s teams unless stated.

Round of 16 Match 7
Namibia v PNG Early 2010s

Namibia

ICC Media Zone

Namibia adopted a new-look after winning World Cricket League 2, and debunked the myths of a change of kit leading to a change of fortune after success also in the T20 World Cup Qualifier. A mostly light blue shirt, along with navy blue and red sleeves, Namibia enjoyed a successful 2019, qualifying for the men’s T20 World Cup.

Papua New Guinea perhaps get a slight advantage over the rest of the field, with the baggy cap with yellow and red hoops an awesome addition. This particular kit of the team, sporting the red ‘V’ with yellow trim sets itself apart from the rest of their creations.
