Four quarter-final spots are locked up in the World Cup of Jerseys, with the last encounter a ding dong battle!
Jersey and Uganda both garnered great support throughout the 24 hours with the two highest votes of the the competition thus far, though it was Channel Islanders who pushed away late.
In the other matches of the knockout rounds Scotland fought bravely against a giant in the kit World Cup, though it was the heavy public strength of Nepal that edged things. Bermuda were also too strong for the Dutch 1996 World Cup kit, with Germany too strong for St. Helena.
In the fifth Round of 16 match-up, it’s Vanuatu taking on Tanzania! Before we preview that clash, here is the bracket for the final 16 after the latest result!
Tanzania and Nepal progressed from Group A, while Vanuatu and Scotland 1999 progressed in Group B. The Pink of Bermuda stormed home and Rwanda scraped enough votes across Twitter and Facebook to squeeze through in Group C and Group D was domination by the Dutch, with both the current kit and the 1996 World Cup shirt running away from the field to advance.
Germany took out Group E, topping both the Facebook and Twitter polls, with PNG’s Early 2010s kit overcoming a perhaps more-fancied Afghanistan 2015 effort. Group F saw the current Namibian kit run away in first, with St. Helena causing a huge upset, beating out Singapore by the barest of margins (a single vote!) across Facebook and Twitter polls. Kenya’s 1999 World Cup shirt stormed away in Group G, with the shirt (or jersey) from Jersey took second place across the Facebook Group and the Twitter page.
Note: Jerseys are the current kits used by both men’s and women’s teams unless stated.
Vanuatu got a lot of attention for holding live sport over the last few weeks, as one of few countries around the world able to host any action. Their national team kit, shared by both the men’s and women’s team also stands out – a predominantly green kit but also featuring other colours of their national flag, with a floral trim along the sleeves.
Competing in the ICC Challenge League when international cricket returns, Vanuatu’s bright colours will grace our streams, though for the moment the vibrancy of their domestic game has enjoyed hundreds of thousands of viewers.
One of the last national teams to play before coronavirus took over the world, Tanzania demand attention with their blend of green, black, yellow and blue – the colours of their national flag adopted after Tanganyika and Zanzibar united to form the country in 1964.
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, the blue symbolises the Indian Ocean, the black symbolises the majority population, with agricultural resources and mineral wealth symbolised by the green and yellow respectively.
For the knockout stages of the tournament, a third poll via our Emerging Cricket Facebook page has been introduced. Instead of the four-way polls, team now go head-to-head to find a World Cup winner!
On top of the page, make sure you are a member of our Facebook Group and follow our Twitter pages to maximise your voting power when we post out the polls!
