All but two of the World Cup of Jerseys group stages have played out, with four knockout spots left for the taking.
Group F saw the current Namibian kit run away in first, with St. Helena causing a huge upset, beating out Singapore by the barest of margins (a single vote!) across Facebook and Twitter polls.
In the other groups run and done, Tanzania and Nepal progressed to the knockout stages from Group A, Vanuatu and Scotland 1999 progressed in Group B, while the Pink of Bermuda storming home and Rwanda scraping enough votes across Twitter and Facebook to squeeze through Group C. Group D was domination by the Dutch, with both the current kit and the 1996 World Cup shirt running away from the field to advance over Ireland 2007 and Fiji’s U19 World Cup effort of 2016. Germany ran away with Group E topping both the Facebook and Twitter polls, with PNG’s Early 2010s kit overcoming a perhaps more-fancied Afghanistan 2015 effort.
Group G includes one of the tournament favourites, and features a diverse pool of teams from all over the world
Note: Jerseys are the current kits used by both men’s and women’s teams unless stated.
Argentina’s light blue/silver is iconic, though pivoting away from their other national teams, the cricket team play with a tone of black on the kit, and pull it off. Celebrating their South American Championship last year in Peru, the Sunny Ones could triumph and escape what is a tricky group G
Is there a bigger alpha move than rocking up to a global tournament with the Maasai shield and two spears also emblazoned on your national flag? In the golden era of cricket kit design, Kenya arguably led the pack with this effort at the World Cup in 1999, even if their performances on the field weren’t cut from the same cloth. Losing all five of their matches, their opponents were not intimidated by the weapons across their chest.
Imagine the scenes when Jersey take home the World Cup of Jerseys! They may need a boost of votes from those outside the largest Channel Islands, but their mix of dark reds and blues brings a new flavour to the competition. A nice touch is the cross, or saltire of the Jersey flag on the back of the shirt, in a mix of other patterns on the shirt.
Malaysia has a reputation in emerging circles for producing kits a bit more expressive than most, with their blue and orange design also thrown up as a potential entry in the tournament. Though after trawling through kits across cyberspace, their pattern here takes the cake. With a two-tone tiger pattern across the front of the shirt, this side means business.
This is group G in our World Cup, with two advancing from each group to the round of 16, where kits will then go head-to-head to crown a winner. Kits from the same nation must be drawn together and polls will be done via Twitter and Facebook.
Make sure you are a member of our Facebook Group and follow our Twitter pages to maximise your voting power when we post out the polls!
