EC World Cup of Jerseys: Group F

By Tom Grunshaw and Daniel Beswick

We are over halfway through the World Cup of Jerseys group stage, with ten of the sixteen knockout spots locked up!

Germany ran away with Group E topping both the Facebook and Twitter polls, with PNG’s Early 2010s kit overcoming a perhaps more-fancied Afghanistan 2015 effort.

In the other groups run and done, Tanzania and Nepal progressed to the knockout stages from Group A, Vanuatu and Scotland 1999 progressed in Group B, while the Pink of Bermuda storming home and Rwanda scraping enough votes across Twitter and Facebook to squeeze through Group C. Group D was domination by the Dutch, with both the current kit and the 1996 World Cup shirt running away from the field to advance over Ireland 2007 and Fiji’s U19 World Cup effort of 2016.

Two Namibian jerseys, Singapore and St. Helena make up Group F.

Note: Jerseys are the current kits used by both men’s and women’s teams unless stated.

Namibia

Namibia adopted a new-look after winning World Cricket League 2, and debunked the myths of a change of kit leading to a change of fortune after success also in the T20 World Cup Qualifier. A mostly light blue shirt, along with navy blue and red sleeves, Namibia enjoyed a successful 2019, qualifying for the men’s T20 World Cup.

Smart and organised. Namibia went with a safe bet for their debut World Cup appearance but in retrospect, the ‘less is more’ approach has aged excellently. In a similar vein to Ireland’s 2007 effort, Namibia separated the national colours of blue and green with a trim of red and yellow.

Namibia would have to wait 16 years before claiming ODI status again at World Cricket League 2 last year at home.

St. Helena

Other countries have moved away from predominantly yellow kits, though St. Helena has decided to go against the grain, albeit with green patterns. Can one of the smallest ICC members pull off the most unlikely tournament wins? St. Helena’s gold and green will have its work cut out, but the public vote could make this the 2020 Cinderella story.

Singapore

ICC Media Zone

Black and red has been a recurring theme throughout the groups so far, but that by no means reduces the quality of this entry from Singapore. Red fading to black at the shoulders, with thin red stripes is a simple, yet charming design.

The design comes associated with Singapore’s rapid and methodical rise in the last 12 months, topping the T20 World Cup Asia qualifier and Asia Cup Eastern qualifier ahead of the more established Nepal and Hong Kong, and even toppled Scotland and Zimbabwe along the way.

EC World Cup of Jerseys Format and How to Vote

This is group F in our World Cup, with two advancing from each group to the round of 16, where kits will then go head-to-head to crown a winner. Kits from the same nation must be drawn together and polls will be done via Twitter and Facebook.

Make sure you are a member of our Facebook Group and follow our Twitter pages to maximise your voting power when we post out the polls!
