Sandeep Lamichhane signs on with Hurricanes for BBL|10

Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has signed on with the Hobart Hurricanes as the team’s final signing for BBL|10.

The Hurricanes made the announcement via press release this morning, with Sandeep the fifth overseas signing of the campaign. He joins Dawid Malan and Keemo Paul in the new-look Hurricanes team, with Will Jacks and Colin Ingram signed as overseas replacement players.

Lamichhane will be available for the Hurricanes in January, lining up as the frontline spinner with D’Arcy Short and Mac Wright only part-time options. 18-year-old Will Parker is another leg-spinner in the squad, though should only feature if Lamichhane is unavailable.

Taking 26 wickets at an economy of 7.10 across two seasons, the Stars reached the final in both seasons with Sandeep in the team, only to fall to the Renegades and Sixers in BBL|08 and BBL|09 respectively. Former teammate Adam Zampa is the only leg-spinner with a better bowling economy and strike rate in the competition since Sandeep’s debut in December 2018.

“I am humbled and honoured to join the Hobart Hurricanes family for BBL|10. I have always got a lot of love and support in Australia, and the premium quality of competition in Big Bash is exciting,” Lamichhane said in the team’s release.

Hurricanes Head Coach Adam Griffith expressed his delight with the signing, elaborating on the importance of Sandeep’s unique abilities as a leg-spin bowler in the T20 format.

“We have seen how Sandeep can change a game with his mystery spin, and he can bowl at any stage of the innings. He’s a proven wicket taker who will add yet another dimension to our bowling group,” Griffith added in the release.
