No place for USA and Canada in West Indies Super 50

The USA and Canada men’s teams will not be featuring in this year’s Regional Super50 Cup; the West Indies premier 50-over tournament. Alongside the two national sides, the West Indies Emerging players squad, who are the defending champions, will also not be taking part which means the side will not compete for back to back titles.

The team’s cutting means that the tournament reverts to its original form with the regions six leading franchises taking part; Jamaica Scorpions, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Guyana Volcanoes, Barbados Pride, Leeward Island Volcanoes and the Windward Island Hurricanes. The changes to the teams competing in the tournament also means a change to the tournament’s scheduling. Last season, the teams were split into two groups; the fixture reduction now means that the tournament will be played over one round with each team playing five matches. The Antigua and Barbuda-hosted tournament is scheduled to start on the 4th February and will conclude on the 27th February.

Despite Canada not taking part in the tournament, Canadian international Nicholas Kirton, who was in action for the Jamaica Tallawahs during the 2020 edition of the CPL, will be wearing the colours of the Barbados Pride.

In other tournament-related news, Kieran Pollard has been named the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force captain for the upcoming tournament.

  • So much for the Windies continuous claim that they want to do "everything possible"
    to help USA cricket.

  • WICB would have at least invited the ICC America's XI to take part which would have given a few selected players from Canada, USA, Bermuda and other counties that represents Americas region, to participate and flex their muscles to start a fresh 2021 season. The decision probably coz of the Covid19 and player quarantine and other complications. Hope this will be only limited to this year 2021 and the Canada & USA will be back in 2022
