Fixtures confirmed for Global Qualifier A and Oman Quadrangular Series

The fixtures for the upcoming T20 World Cup Global Qualifier A have been confirmed by the ICC. Separately, details of a warm-up quadrangular series between four teams playing in the qualifiers, Nepal, UAE, Ireland, and hosts Oman, have been announced.

In the Global Qualifier, 20 matches will take place across 7 days on the two grounds at the Oman Cricket Academy. The eight teams are divided into two groups of four. Group A sees hosts Oman, Nepal, Canada and Philippines compete against each other, whilst Ireland, UAE, Germany and Bahrain play in Group B. The groups see a slight change from the previous reported details, with Bahrain and Philippines changing places

The tournament starts on 18th February, with Oman playing Nepal in the opening fixture, and Canada playing Philippines simultaneously on the 2nd ground. Group B will start in the afternoon of the same day, with UAE playing Ireland and Bahrain playing Germany. Four matches take plac on the 19th: Oman vs Canada, Nepal vs Philippines, UAE vs Germany and Ireland vs Philippines.

A rest day follows the first two rounds of fixtures, with the group stages finishing on the 21st February. After the group stages, the top two in each group advance to the all-important semi-finals, which will played on 22nd February. The finals take place on the 24th, following a rest day on the 23rd. The two teams that reach the final will advance to the T20 World Cup in Australia.

A full complement of placement playoffs are confirmed to take place, meaning each team will play 5 matches, regardless of their record in the tournament. The 5th-8th place semi-finals will run along side the main semi-finals, with the 7th, 5th and 3rd place play-offs taking place the same day as the final.

Ahead of the tournament, Nepal, Ireland, UAE, and Oman will warm-up with a quadrangular series at the Oman Cricket Academy. Six matches will take place across the 11th, 12th and 14th of February in a round-robin tournament, opening with Ireland vs UAE and Nepal vs Oman on the first day.

Nepal, Ireland and Germany have all announced their squads ahead of the tournaments. Sandeep Lamichhane will lead Nepal in his first tournament as captain. Meanwhile, Ireland’s squad see the absence of Kevin O’Brien for the tour. Germany have added South African born Surrey batter Justin Broad to their ranks.
