Eurowrap: Farmers Caesareans reign supreme in Jersey

Farmers Caesareans claimed the first trophy of the Jersey summer on Saturday when they posted a five-wicket victory over Old Victorians in the final of the Premier T20 competition.

Farmers’ win was a real team effort, and contrasted with the superb solo performance of the Old Boys’ Corey Bisson, who made a 68-ball 108 out of his side’s total of 161 for five, after earlier hitting 62 to guide them to a 33-run semi-final victory over St Ouen Springfield and a place in the final.

St Ouen had fallen short despite a solid partnership between Dominic Blampied and Tony Kay, but the Farmers were a different proposition, all the top order chipping in, and doing so at speed.

Nick Ferraby led the way with a 17-ball 30, Joel Dudley contributed 21 from 17 and Josh Lawrenson 17 from 11, but it was Asa Tribe’s unbeaten 47 from 35 deliveries, well supported by a 13-ball 30 not out from Charles Perchard, which saw them home with an over to spare.

In Denmark’s Elite Division Ishøj inflicted a first defeat of the season on visitors Svanholm, retaining their own unbeaten record in the process, while KB’s Jutland weekend yielded a victory over Herning and defeat at the hands of Skanderborg, who also remain unbeaten.

Ishøj’s win was a personal triumph for Delawar Khan, who made 82 in his side’s total of 215 and then took five for 24 as Svanholm crumbled from 164 for three to 189 all out.

Mads Henriksen’s four for 33 had played a big part in the dismissal of the home side, and when Toby Adams (56) and skipper Zishan Shah (76) were adding 140 for Svanholm’s fourth wicket it seemed that they were laying the foundation of a comfortable win.

But Javid Khan removed both of them in the same over, and then Delawar returned to run through the lower order.

KB quickly seized the initiative at Herning on Saturday after Amjad Khan had won the toss and put the home side in, reducing them to 49 for six in the space of 17 overs.
They managed to recover somewhat to 99 all out, thanks to 33 from Glenn Hedevang, but with Anique Uddin taking four for 11 and two wickets apiece for Saif Ahmed and Bashir Shah Herning were unable to set a really challenging target.

Nevertheless, KB made heavy weather of their reply, losing seven wickets on their way to the win. Opener Saif Ahmed contributed 29, but it was an aggressive run-a-ball 36 from Saran Aslam which turned the game KB’s way, and they knocked off the runs with nearly 25 overs to spare.

Deciding to bat first at Skanderborg on Sunday, KB did rather better, Zameer Khan (42) and Saif (35) giving them an excellent start with an opening stand of 69, and 58 from Saran Aslam enabled them to reach 199.

Nicolaj Damgaard took four for 35 for Skanderborg, and then made 69 when the home side replied, sharing an opening partnership of 72 with Michael Pedersen (29) and adding a further 40 with Shangeev Thanikaithasan.

Thanikaithasan went on to make 49, and with keeper Taranjeet Singh chipping in with 32 Skanderborg completed their six-wicket win with 13.1 overs in hand, despite Saif Ahmad taking three for 42.

In the Netherlands on Saturday both matches in the Women’s Hoofdklasse triumphed over the weather, and Ajax Leiden came desperately close to recording their first win of the season, losing by just two runs to Rood en Wit Haarlem.

Chasing the Haarlem side’s 173 for seven, to which opener Claire Dwyer had contributed 32 and Laurien Meijer 50, Ajax were held together by Pietje Suurenbroek, who made an unbeaten, 71-ball 85 and shared a crucial eighth-wicket stand of 90 with Laura Kleijne.

But Kleijne was run out for 26 with 12 still needed, and with Silver Siegers taking three for 21 even Suurenbroek’s efforts saw the Leidenaars finish two runs short.
Quick Haag, meanwhile, kept within a game of leaders Voorburg with a four-wicket win over VRA Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam side made 211 for six, thanks to 44 from Gwen Bloemen and 52 from Miranda Veringmeier, but Quick reached their target in 30.2 overs, a 53-ball knock of 55 from opener Caroline de Lange getting them off to a good start, with Robine Rijke making 32 and Frederique Overdijk seeing her side home with 39 not out.

Nathalie Hennis took three for 41 for VRA, and Bloemen two for 61.
