Nepal: DPL T20 postponed, Bhandari discharged from hospital

The fourth edition of the Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL T20), one of the major franchise T20 leagues in Nepal, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tournament organisers Dhangadhi Cricket Academy issued a press release saying it was impossible to hold the tournament amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which was prescheduled for October 24 to November 9 this year.

The DPL T20 has played a very good role in decentralizing cricket in the Far Western province of Nepal where six participating franchise teams fight for the trophy. The earlier editions of the tournament used to be held in the month of Falgun (February/March) but this edition of the league was postponed to October/November for cricketers being on national duty in February this year. Organisers have said they will announce the tournament’s date soon.

Meanwhile Nepal seamer Lalit Singh Bhandari, who was hospitalised after a motorbike accident last month has been discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

Cricket Players Association Nepal (CPAN), along with several fan groups, had initiated crowdfunding campaigns in Nepal to support Bhandari, who was seriously injured while returning to his home in Kanchanpur in mid-September.

Former national captain and the General Secretary of the CPAN, Paras Khadka thanked everyone who was contributed in the campaign.

“Wish to see you back on the field soon,” he tweeted.
