Cricket PNG keeps the motor running with sponsor announcement

Cricket PNG has announced the extension of Boroko Motors’ sponsorship of the sport in the country.

During the first year of sponsorship, the motor vehicle distributors served as naming rights holders of the Isuzu National Cup, a 50-over tournament which took place in August.

The announcement event held in Port Moresby saw some of PNG’s premier male talent as stars Charles Jordan Amini, Alei Nao, Assad Vala, Nosaina Pokana, Jason Kila, and Hiri Hiri all in attendance.

Cricket PNG CEO Greg Campbell presented Boroko Motors representative Michael Townsley with a signed and framed Isuzu National Cup shirt to mark the first year of the company’s involvement with cricket.

When talking about the partnership, Campbell stated that ‘We are grateful to have the support of Boroko Motors, a leading brand throughout the country whose ties with servicing communities aligns with our strategy to bring cricket to all Papua New Guineans. Their support and enthusiasm for the game was crucial during the lockdown period in early August and played a key part in completing the tournament safely’.

‘We run our programs out of the centres as these dealers, and this partnering cricket with a brand name familiar to these towns will only serve to strengthen the bond between Boroko Motors and the community. We want to bring cricket to these communities and Boroko Motors is driving us’, the former Australian Test player concluded.

Meanwhile, Townsley, the General Manager Sales and Marketing at Boroko Motors, said that ‘The partnership is a great opportunity for Boroko Motors in becoming involved with Cricket PNG’s growth and the sporting code in the country … this is an ideal platform for our brand and for cricket in PNG’.

This year saw plenty of exciting action from the inaugural Isuzu National Cup as players returned to action following an extended break.

The Barramundis face an exciting 2021 as the team make their debut at a T20 World Cup along with the continuation of the qualifying campaign for the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup.
