CAN honours Paras Khadka by retiring jersey number 77

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has retired jersey number 77 worn by former Nepalese cricketer Paras Khadka. Khadka himself retired from international cricket earlier this week, on 3 August 2021.

CAN decided to retire the jersey as a way of honouring the contribution that the Nepal cricket legend had made for the country.

IPL franchise Mumbai Indians retired the iconic jersey number 10 worn by Sachin Tendulkar in 2017. The number 77 worn by Paras represents his birthday which falls on 7th of Kartik, the 7th month in the Nepalese calendar.

Paras Khadka represented Nepal for seventeen long years leading the country to the T20 World Cup, taking the team to several important world cricket league victories and eventually earning the historic One Day International (ODI) status for Nepal cricket.

Paras welcomed CAN’s decision by thanking the Association. He posted on his Twitter account, ‘would like to thank the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) for honouring me with their decision to retire my National Cricket Team jersey number 77. Blessed and grateful.’
