Oman 152/4 defeat USA 148 by six wickets at the United Ground

Oman won the toss and elected to bowl.

Oman taste victory over the USA as the clock strike 5pm here in Windhoek. Nadeem and Suraj Kumar were unflappable in their partnership with six wickets in hand to take two crucial points.

16:20 – A huge effort from Elmore Hutchinson brings no reward, with a toiling effort of 0/23 from his ten overs. Oman 106/4 (38)

16:12 – Oman close to three figures as their Req. run rate approaches four and over. Nadeem and Kumar digging in despite the best efforts of Hutchinson and co. who have kept things tidy.

16:00 – Oman slowly crawling to their total as the wicket begins to flatten. Oman moved to 87/4 at drinks a few moments ago. Nadeem and Suraj Kumar starting to build potentially the match-winning partnership though it must be added that every time it has looked like a team will pull through, the other has clawed back. This one is far from over. Steven Taylor from the far end looking to find any spin in this surface.

15:40 – A quiet five overs or so with both sides perhaps sensing the pressure of this opening fixtrue. Nadeem digging in with 18 to his name from 60 balls. Oman 67/4 (27)

15:19 – Rain starting to fall in Windhoek (at least at United a few kilometres away from the other two grounds) though it is nowhere near enough rain to bring play to a halt. Oman 61/4 (23)

15:12 – Just as soon as it looked like Oman had found their groove, the change to bring Ali Khan is an inspired one. Malhotra takes an unbelievable catch low down to bring their 4th (and Ali’s 4th at that!) 55/4 in the 22nd over.

15:10 – Maqsood making the most of his chance so far with some clean hitting, clearing the front leg over mid wicket and cover.

15:05 – A huge shift in momentum in favour of Oman after a dropped catch from Xavier Marshall and the drinks break. Hutchinson getting the edge only for the ex-West Indian to put down the low chance. 55/3 (21)

13:44 – Oman slow in their quest to chase down though looking rather comfortable early in their innings. Khawar Ali and Jatinder Singh measured early against likes of Netravalkar and Ali Khan.

12:48 – All out! A yorker undoes Ali Khan! Early lunch to be taken so a 45 minute break here at United. See you soon.

12:45 – USA Tail wagging. Ali Khan and Elmore Hutchinson staying firm, ducking and weaving the short stuff while digging out yorkers. Ali Khan also showing aggression with a flurried drive moving USA closer to 150. One short in fact.

12:36 – Taken! Netravalkar edges to second slip! Khaleemullah cleaning up at the opposite end he did his damage earlier this morning. He has three scalps now. USA now 9 down and in huge trouble of being bundled out here early on day one.

12:34 – USA fighting by churning out runs with some good running, also helped by some average outfielding.

12:28 – Malhotra’s second stint ends in a caught and bowled for captain Maqsood! A soft dismissal after a revival from the Americans and Malhotra, who has fought well considering he was brought down by a Mohammad Nadeem bouncer.

12:20 – What did they give Malhotra at the hospital? Some expansive play from the man returning and a breath of life for the USA with multiple boundaries. 143/7 (33)

12:14 – Silva falls but Malhotra is back! Great news to report as Malhotra returns to bat for the USA! Speaking to the USA room it appears his visit was more precautionary and to to carry out ICC concussion protocol. Great news!

12:05 – Patel falls! Just when it looked like the USA had found their mojo, Patel edges to Khawar Ali! USA on the verge of a crumble.

12:05 – Patel falls! Just when it looked like the USA had found their mojo, Patel edges to Khawar Ali! USA on the verge of a crumble.

12:00USA rebuild! A second wind here for the USA with Tim Patel anchoring the great work of Roy Silva. As I type this Tim Patel plays a magnificent square drive to bring up the hundred!

11:56 – Six Roy Silva! Biggest cheer of the day after he drives over the rope! USA Rebuilding to be 91/5 into the 27th over.

11:00 – Concerns as an ambulance comes onto the ground to treat the felled Jaskaran Malhotra. Malhotra was brought down by a vicious bouncer from Mohammed Nadeem. We will pass on news as it comes to hand on his condition but we do wish him all the best. USA 3/47 (16)

10:12 – Plenty of early pressure by the Omani bowlers both on their opposition and the umpires, with appeals aplenty at both ends. Bilal Khan with Khaleemullah with some good carry early here on day one. USA 19/1 (9) with Patel now joined by Steven Taylor.

10:05 – First wicket of the day is a horror piece of luck for the USA as Marshall as run out at the non-striker’s end. Cruelly, those on music blare Get Lucky by Pharell Williams and Daft Punk as the Ex-West Indian Test batsman trudges off! USA 18/1 into the 7th over.

9:55 – A minute’s silence to begin the day to commemorate Con de Lange, who died of a brain tumour yesterday. We send our condolences to his family and those involved in Scottish Cricket
