Since gaining ODI status in 2019, Oman have established themselves as one of the leading associate nations. Their rich vein of form has seen them qualify for a second consecutive T20 World Cup, as well as leading Cricket World Cup League 2.
The recent upgrading of the Oman Academy Ground to a test venue has allowed Oman to co-host the T20 World Cup. The Omanis will have the advantage of playing on their home ground against PNG, Bangladesh and Scotland.
Bilal Khan and Kallemullah form a desitructive opening bowling partnership with a track record of dismantling batting orders. At the other, Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas form a contrasting-but-effect combination with the bat. Oman are a genuine threat and have a real opportunity to reach the Super 12s.
But to do so, they will likely have to come past Scotland and Papua New Guinea. Scotland hold a 100% win record against Oman in T20Is, and although Oman and PNG have not met in an official T20I, PNG were worthy runners-up at the qualifying event, whilst Oman finished 5th.
If ever there was time to cash on home-field advantage, this would be it.
