Group B: Jersey 147 all out (Ward 47, Siddique 2-34) defeated United Arab Emirates 112 all out (Mustafa 28, Carlyon 3-15) by 35 runs.
Jersey has halted the momentum of the UAE form train with a 35-run victory over the hosts at Abu Dhabi today.
Jersey won the toss and elected to bat with the top order of Ferraby (11), Carlyon (16), Stevens (16) and Jenner (20) all getting starts however not being able to capitalise.
Sitting at a precarious position of 4-67 midway through the innings when he arrived at the crease, middle-order batsmen Ben Ward did the job for the visitors smashing 47 from 24 balls to set a competitive total of 148 for victory. An innings which included four sixes and two fours.
UAE got off to a flyer thanks to openers Rohan Mustafa (28) and Chirag Suri (27) who put on sixty runs for the first wicket before 18-year-old all-rounder Harry Carlyon dragged Jersey back into the contest with a spell that saw him pick up three wickets for just fifteen runs.
With UAE needing in excess of 12 runs an over with six overs remaining, Ben Stevens took two wickets in consecutive balls in the 15th over to leave the hosts at 6-84. Killing off any hope for the hosts chasing down the score.
Ben Ward picked up player of the match honours for scoring 47 and taking 1-14 from his four overs. On the opposite side, Rohan Mustafa’s 28 which included three fours and one six alongside his economical spell of 1-13 which included no boundaries and thirteen dots led the way for the hosts.
The performance solidifies Mustafa’s impressive tournament to date with the all-rounder ticking over 100 runs for the tournament in the match as well taking seven wickets.
The result leaves both sides on four points from two wins with Jersey having a game in hand. It creates a massive jam in group B with five sides on two wins going into tomorrows matchups.
For Jersey, they will set their sights on the winless Hong Kong side tomorrow looking to solidify their top-two chances. Whilst the UAE will enjoy a much needed day rest to recoup after the loss at the hands of Jersey and the removal of yet another player from the side in Ashfaq Ahmed due to provisional suspension. Facing Nigeria in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
