Covid-19 strikes Minor League again, schedule changes

A coach from the NJ Stallions has tested positive for Covid-19, according to an announcement from USA Cricket via Twitter. The positive test comes less than two weeks since a member of the DC Hawks tested positive for Covid-19, indefinitely postponing games for the Hawks and delaying games for 13 days for Empire Titans and The Philadelphians.

Players were informed of the positive test in the midst of Saturday’s game between NJ Stallions and NJ Somerset Cavaliers at the Howe Athletic Complex in Franklin Township, New Jersey.

In spite of accounting for just over 4% of the world’s population, the United States of America has suffered over 20% of the world’s one million deaths attributed to the virus. Positive tests throughout professional sports leagues in the United States have been newsworthy, and a member of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons tested positive on Saturday. The NBA, NHL and MLB have gone to lengths to protect players, implementing secure bubbles, and yet have not been without incident. Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez missed the entire 2020 MLB season after developing myocarditis from his two-month struggle with Covid-19, and has only recently been cleared by doctors to resume walking.

Cricket throughout the world has also seen its share of positive cases, with two South Africans testing positive during a team culture camp, Pakistan cricketers have tested positive ahead of their tour in England, and England’s domestic cricket suffered a setback with a First class positive test as well.

In response to the positive test, MiLC has cancelled the two games originally scheduled in Pennsylvania on Sunday.
