Czech Cricket signs on for domestic champ to play in European Cricket League from 2022

The Czech Cricket Union (Českomoravský Kriketový Svaz) has signed a long-term partnership ensuring that the Czech domestic champion club in 2021 will be invited to ECL22, it has been announced.

After being one of the first nations in Europe to see competitive action restart post-COVID-19, the news also comes after the successful staging of the ECN Czech T10 Super Series which saw 40 matches played across the 16 team event. Spread over five weekends, Bohemian CC prevailed in the championship game in Prague earlier this month.

“Czech Cricket devise solid programs to develop their youth, promote their leagues and celebrate their players. Czech cricket is an inspiration and motivation to every emerging cricket nation.” said Daniel Weston, Founder of the European Cricket League.

“It is with great pleasure to have a community of cricket loving people that work so hard for the development of the game to now have the chance to shine on the European stage on a domestic club level in the years to come. This will create aspirations for young Czech cricketers to follow a clear pathway to high performance cricket.”

COO of Czech Cricket Union, Terry O’Connor, said: “The Českomoravský Kriketový Svaz is delighted to enter a partnership with the ECL. Not only will this give a fantastic reward to our Domestic League Champions, but it will also show our hundreds of juniors that there is a clear pathway to be able to play cricket at the highest level in Europe.

“We strive to find ways to increase opportunities for our clubs, players and umpires, and further boost the quality and awareness of Czech cricket, and this agreement provides all of that and more. We very much look forward to being a part of the ECL family.”

Following the postponement of ECL20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the second staging of the European Cricket League – ECL21 – will now take place from May 30 to June 6, 2021, with 16 teams – spread over eight days of T10 action at La Manga Club in Spain.
