12:43 – Host Darren Gough has read through all the overseas players as he asks Roland from the KNCB to pick teams from the hat to start the local picks, and it’s Amsterdam Knights.
12:00 – The draft takes another break, with the local players draft taking place after the draft. Where will the local players slide in alongside the internationals? Stay tuned to find out
11:55 – Nothing groundbreaking in the international supplementary round, except, wait.. the FIRST, AND LAST ASSOCIATE OVERSEAS PICK: Saad bin Zafar from Canada. Rounding out the international players draft is the selection of big hitting South African Dwaine Pretorious by Edinburgh. (Thanks Wikipedia / Lugnuts!):
11:45 Rotterdam have selected Pakistani Anwar Ali to add to their Pakistani contingent of Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman.
11:45 South African JJ Smuts has been selected by Glasgow
11:40 – Amsterdam have selected veteran English batsmen Varun Chopra and Canadian stalwart Saad Bin Zafar.
11:40 – The opening of the supplementary rounds sees up and comers Muhammed Ilyas selected by Belfast and Waqar Salamkheil by Edinburgh
11:20 – The draft is back with the SUPPLEMENTARY rounds! Though we’re taking a break here on the blog. Keep up with the stream here.
10:50 – The draft takes a break. Here are the teams thus far thanks to our friend Lugnuts on Wikipedia (a hero without a cape in the Emerging Cricket world!).
After Dublin did the early running, a couple of headscratchers in Frylinck and Bosch. To be honest, too early to say who has the best side on paper (after all, we don’t have a complete XI yet!)
10:40 – Back to Dublin after their pass … and they’re still struggling on the clock here. Down to one minute on their countdown. Clock stops as they request a pick, and they go for *drumroll* Corbin Bosch! Well that is bold indeed. A 24-year-old with 16 domestic T20s to his name. Almost certain they could have taken him in a late round pick.
10:40 – Amsterdam Knights go for Alzarri Joseph
10:39 – Anton Devcich, or Anton “De-vish” as Goughie wants to call him, goes to Edinburgh.
10:37 – Belfast take young Aussie quick Aaron Summers! A huge prospect who also played at the PSL
10:35 – Peter Trego to Rotterdam! English domestic legend Trego will bring a wealth of experience.
10:34 – Dublin Chiefs asking for assistance but look to have picked a player, but they opt to pass! They’ve opted for more time and sacrifice their order and will pick last in the round. Bold strategy Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off.
10:31 – Glasgow Giants get us underway for round 5. They take South African ‘keeper Heinrich Klaassen.
10:30 – Round 5 to come now. We’ll look at teams so far after this round.
10:29 – Hardus Viljoen for the Rotterdam Rhinos
10:28 – Mitch McClenaghan to Belfast.
10:27 – Tabraiz Shamsi for the Edinburgh Rocks
10:27 – Sikandar ‘Butt’, better known as Sikandar Raza for the Amsterdam Knights. It’s been a rough 24 hours for the Zimbabwean after Zimbabwe were suspended by the ICC today.
10:25am – Qais Ahmed for the Glasgow Giants! Brought in as a replacement for the Hurricanes earlier in the year. May have been unlucky not to be picked in the Afghan World Cup. Afghanistan also playing a series during the tournament.
10:24am – Dublin get the double dip in the snake format. It appears they want a player not found in the system. They select Robbie Frylinck!
10:23am – Daniel Christian for Dublin! A bit of chat that they wanted Henriques maybe but arguably a better pick here. Won T20 competitions in South Africa and Australia in the southern hemisphere summer.
10:22am – Another Aussie, Moises Henriques picked up by the Glasgow Giants!
10:20am – Amsterdam Knights take Hassan Ali!
10:18am – Tymal Mills picked and he’s in the room! Edinburgh Rocks get their man it seems, and he even joins their table!
10:18am – Belfast Titans have wasted no time with their picks, keeping me on my toes! Colin Ingram picked! Interesting one. A forgettable world cup in the UK for him, though a guy certainly capable of exploding. Can chime in with ball in hand too.
10:16 – Rotterdam Rhinos with the first pick of round three. Shaheen Afridi picked! A World Cup breakout star and another Pakistani picked. Dominating early proceedings.
10:15am – An update of the squads after two rounds of players joining Icon/Marquee players. Lugnuts on Wikipedia coming through with the goods.
Some early thoughts: I like Dublin early with in-form players with the bat and proven bowlers.
10:13 – Amsterdam Knights select Ahmed Shahzad – back to back Pakistan players picked.
10:12 – Glasgow Giants pick Usman Shinwari! Two Renegades quicks picked back to back! A little unlucky not to play World Cup cricket perhaps.
10:11am – Dublin Chiefs on the clock with Daniel Vettori on the blower … and Harry Gurney is taken! A great limited-over bowler who enjoyed a winning campaign with the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL.
10:10am – Rotterdam Rhinos selected Notts’ Samit Patel
10:08am – Luke Wright is selected by the Belfast Titans.
10:06am – Edinburgh get the double dip with the ‘snake draft’ format. In theory, it evens out picks so that so pick 1 (Amsterdam), don’t get the first pick in every round. This is employed for the first two rounds.
After a deliberation and a bit of debate, Edinburgh Rocks select… Matt Henry! Another kiwi for the Scottish side and one off the back of a brilliant World Cup.
10:05am – Edinburgh Rocks on the clock, Mark Ramprakash confirming with a nod that they’re getting who they wanted. They select New Zealander Corey Anderson.
10:04am – Belfast Titans opt for Mohammad Nawaz.
10:03am – “I gotta be careful how I pronounce this,” says Goughie – Fakhar Zaman is taken by Rotterdam Rhinos!
10:02am – Dublin Chiefs select Mohammad Amir!
10:01am – Ravi Bopara to Glasgow Giants!
10:00am – Ben Cutting is the first player drafted by the Amsterdam Knights!. We are underway! Glasgow now on the clock.
Cutting definitely with middle order hitting and some fast bowling in mind. He joins Tahir and Watson at Amsterdam.
9:58am – “I’ll stand here and give the rules because I don’t know them either” – Goughie is off to a flyer!
“Why do you need three minutes for something that takes five seconds?”
9:56am – Darren Gough makes his first appearance to begin the draft, and he has brought a heap of energy. Even starting with a little bit of a stand up bit.
9:53am – The draft will be split in two parts, with the first for overseas players and the second for ‘domestic’ players. Domestic players must play for one of the two teams representing their nation. E.G. Kevin O’Brien must play for either Dublin Chiefs or Belfast Titans.
9:51am – We’re moments away from the draft proper. A reminder of Icon and Marquee picks.
After some slight confusion over its starting time, the draft for the Euro T20 Slam has begun in London.
After a few formalities we are minutes away from the draft proper, where the six franchises will piece together their squads, for the competition which begins on the 30th of August.
