On May 19 we reported that Yuvraj Singh was considering his options after announcing his retirement from international and first class cricket.
And on the EC Podcast last week it was predicted that Yuvraj would be announced to play in the Global T20. This was despite the BCCI previously blocking players who wanted to play in overseas leagues, including his brother who was signed by the Kowloon Cantons to play in the 2017 Hong Kong T20 Blitz.
Well, we were right. Taken as the marquee player for the Toronto Nationals, the same team Steve Smith played for last year. The price for marquee players was purportedly $90,000 for the 17-day event getting underway July 25 in Brampton Ontario. It is reasonable to expect Yuvraj will be pocketing a great deal more than that coming from both the successful franchise and the league itself.
The draft continues from Mumbai where the six teams, including the new side from Brampton, the host city for GT20 2019, replaces the West Indies “B” team from last year.
The squad makeups for 2019:
17 total (XI quotas unknown)
7 Full member players
5 Canada players (3 from list A, 2 from List B)
5 Associates (4 + 1 ICC Americans)
This means a total of 60 Associates (30 Candian players + 6 ICC Americas + 24 other AMs) will be selected across the six franchises.
Other major names selected as the time of posting include Kane Williamson, Brendon McCullum and Ali Khan.
