USA Cricket Chair Paraag Marathe re-elected by board

USA Cricket has announced the continued tenure of Paraag Marathe in his role of Independent Director and Chairman of the Board.

Marathe, who also serves as President of 49ers Enterprises for the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL, as well as Vice-Chairman of Leeds United of the EPL, was re-appointed as an independent director, and then re-elected by the board to continue his term as Chair, a role he has filled since 2018.

Since that time, USA Cricket have rejoined the ICC as an Associate Member, earned One Day International status with their Men’s team, formed a partnership with American Cricket Enterprises for a professional T20 franchise system, and established a Foundational Plan, amongst other accomplishments.

‘I am honored to continue my role as an independent director for USA Cricket and Chair of the Board as we continue to build on the significant, foundational progress made over the last two years in collaboration with my colleagues on our Board and the wider community,’ Marathe said in the announcement.

‘There is no doubt that the last 12 months have been a very challenging period, not just for USA Cricket, but the world as a whole. I remain confident that the developments we have made off the field, where we have navigated the continued uncertainties of the COVID-19 landscape, will enable us to make great progress on the field in 2021 and deliver upon our key priorities. I am especially pleased to see the plans coming together for the staging of National Championships in each of the Men’s and Women’s Senior and U19 categories for the first time ever, and being able to deliver a full calendar of cricketing activity across the board this year.’

Adding to that growing calendar, USA Cricket have also announced the return of the Auty Cup, a bilateral contest dating back to 1844, regarded as the first international sporting event in history. Last held in King City in 2017, USA won a close series of three 50 over aside games, two games to one. Dates and venue for the late July Auty Cup return have yet to be announced.
