USA Cricket has announced an intra-regional hard-ball competition which represents the first step in the pathway for women’s cricket in the USA.
The competition will enable local teams within regions to face off against each other on weekends beginning in May of this year.
According to the announcement, these intra-regional games will be a step towards Women’s representative Regional Events, as well as the Women’s National Championships.
‘This has been long due’ USA Women’s Captain Sindhu Sriharsha told Emerging Cricket. ‘This provides a clear pathway to USA women’s national team. This provides much needed competitive games for us throughout the year.’
The National Women’s Training Group recently wrapped up a training camp in Dallas, Texas, featuring 21 cricketers from around the country. The training camp was a long awaited return to cricket for many.
‘This was our first meeting as the national training group in 1.5 years,’ Sriharsha continued. ‘It hasn’t been an easy year for anyone. But we did keep our virtual program running throughout 2020, and finally to meet all of them in person was fantastic. We got a lot of cricket in just a three day camp. The younger girls coming in has added a new dynamic to the team. All of us are eager to kick start the season and it shows with our attitude. It only gets better from here.’
USA Cricket encourages all interested parties to sign up to participate in the competition.
