USA Cricket recently announced an Elite Training Camp held this weekend in the Dallas, Texas area.
Training kicked off on Friday, April 16 at the Lords Indoor Center, and runs through to Sunday April 18. USA Women’s head coach Julia Price is back in the United States and is joined by fielding coach specialist Julien Fountain, a Texas resident and veteran coach with over 20 years of international experience at full member, franchise, and associate levels.
The camp includes 21 cricketers from the Women’s National Training Group, and will be conducted in a bubble environment. The training event represents the first group activity for the Women’s National programs in over a year.
‘After what has been a frustratingly long time due to COVID, we are hugely excited to get back together in person for the first time in over a year,’ USA Women’s Head Coach Julia Price said in the announcement.
‘We have a talented group coming to Texas, with a youthful feel to it as well, as eight of the players are aged 19 or younger. The decision to postpone the Women’s World Cup Qualifier to December was a sensible one from the ICC and it will help by giving us some extra time to continue developing as a group. Before that, we have the critical T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier in September here on home soil, so, while much of our initial focus of this camp will be on fitness, fielding and skill development, we will also start to think about how we can best prepare for that important event,’ she continued.
Following the weekend event, Price will remain in the United States to manage the implementation of the high performance program, as well as traveling to visit cricketing communities across the country.
Texas has quickly become the primary hub for USA Cricket events in 2021, with Houston having recently hosted the Men’s U-19 National Championships earlier this month, as well as the recent announcement of a partnership between Major League Cricket and Houston’s Prairie View Cricket Center.
Along with Texas’s expanded profile, USA Cricket Operations Director Richard Done underscored a goal to continue to connect with other communities. Done was quoted in the announcement, saying ‘We are continuing to look to engage with facilities all over the country and will have a further announcement on the facility partners in the coming weeks after we had a superb response from the community from people all over the country wanting to get involved with USA Cricket.’
