USA Cricket board candidates announced for election

USA Cricket announced candidates for the upcoming election for Individual Director, Club Director and Female Player Director board positions following their completion of the screening process for applicants.

The announcement cites “considerable interest” in the director positions, and that legal advice was sought by the Nominating and Governance Committee in order to limit the field (at least in the case of the Individual Director candidates) to the constitutional limit of five candidates per position.

The events surrounding this 2020 election have been nothing short of controversial, with two board members filing suit on behalf of the board against five board members and the Chief Executive Officer at District Court of Colorado on March 18, 2021. The lawsuit alleges the five defendants committed “breaches of their fiduciary duties as directors and/or officers of USA Cricket, and for ultra vires acts taken by the Individual Defendants on behalf of USA Cricket”.

The plaintiffs seek an injunction to stop the current election process, which would impact the eligibility of the electorate, the eligibility of the candidates put forth, the legitimacy of a recent board election which resulted in Paraag Marathe winning a second term as Independent Director and would further delay the timeline of an already postponed 2020 election.
