USA Cricket and Julia Price part ways

USA Cricket have parted ways with Julia Price, who has served in the Women’s Head Coach role since March of 2019.

According to their announcement of their new recruitment process for a coach who would serve as both Women’s and Women’s U19 Head Coach, USA Cricket “recently decided that these two coaching roles will be combined to provide better continuity to the common players across the two squads and further enhance the development of the U19 players as they prepare for the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in early 2023.”

The announcement also suggests that there could be three additional regional coaches in the future, who would serve as assistants to the Head Coach.

In the announcement, USA Cricket Cricket Operations Director, Richard Done, spoke on the departure of Julia Price, saying “The Cricket Committee decided that the Women’s Head Coach should be permanently based in the USA across the entire 12 months to deliver our women’s programs more regularly. The incumbent USA Women’s Coach, Julia Price, was unavailable to continue under these changed terms, so her contract wasn’t renewed.”

“We want to thank Julia for the work done over the past three years and for guiding us to the ICC Women’s Global T20 Qualifiers to be held later this year. She’s worked passionately with the Women’s Team to achieve success and great progress. With our cricket operations staff and committees, she’s helped establish the first-ever domestic pathway for women and girls in this country. We will continue to build on these solid foundations, and we wish Julia all the best in the future”.

The national women’s pathway referenced by Done won the ICC’s 100% Female Cricket Initiative Award for 2021, and provided aspiring cricketers across the nation with the first ever USA Cricket Women’s and Women’s U19 National Championships, which helped identify talent and aid selectors.

USA Cricket also announced that they are seeking applicants for two spots on the National Women’s Selection Panel, after selectors Joan Alexander-Serrano and Patricia Whittaker resigned last year.

USA Cricket made this announcement on the day of the final of the historic Fairbreak Invitational, likely the most diverse franchise cricket league in history. The Fairbreak offers elite Associate women the unique opportunity to compete on the same stage as big name Full Member cricketers. Price was the coach of the Warriors franchise, which was managed by USA Cricket Women’s Coordinator Julie Abbott and captained by USA captain Sindhu Sriharsha. USA Women’s players Geetika Kodali, Tara Norris and Shebani Bhaskar also featured in the league.
