On Friday, USA Cricket announced an extended list of 44 cricketers for their Men’s National Training Group ahead of next month’s Houston preparations for their March CWCL 2 trilateral series in Oman.
According to the announcement, ‘The Training Group will continually be revised in consultation with the selection committee and coaches in line with the player’s skill development, performance, and attitude.’
The list includes 23 cricketers who have represented the United States in senior men’s competition since 2018. Of the 21 cricketers who have not yet played for the men’s senior team, two have represented the USA in U-19 play: Connecticut born Vivek Narayan and New Jersey born Raymond Ramrattan.
Also amongst the invitees are Kyle Philip, a 24 year fast bowler of towering height with USAC Super 50 experience; 37 year old left handed batsman Narsingh Deonarine, with 18 West Indies Tests to his name; and 17 year old MiLC rising star Sanjay Krishnamurthi. Deonarine and Krishnamurthi were included in Emerging Cricket’s MiLC ‘Team Turf’ for their dominant batting performances.
The average age of the 23 players with USA Men’s experience is just north of 30 years, and the average age of the 21 players invited to compete against the veteran national team players is more than 27 years. Upon USAC’s Oman series scheduled for March, six of these 21 invitees without USAC Men’s experience will be age 31 or older, and five will be under 25.
Most of these 44 aspiring cricketers will convene for training and selection matches next month in Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston, Texas. USA Cricket ‘will only proceed with the camp and series of matches if it is safe to do so, in line with our COVID-19 protocols.’
USA Cricket also plans to announce Women’s, Women’s U-19, and men’s U-19 training groups by the end of January.
