Tanzania: TCA Super League underway

The first round of the Tanzania Cricket Association Super League concluded before Christmas, meaning fans can now reflect on the early action. The 50 over men’s tournament is the first of its kind in Tanzania, with national senior and junior team players competing with and alongside those who have excelled during recently concluded tournaments. With the second round of fixtures starting in January and the third finishing round in February, it still early to make any assumptions about how the final standings will look. However, the Tanzania Cricket Association has published the player statistics from the early running

As it currently stands, the Tembo Warriors go into the break at the top of the table after winning all three of their opening-round matches. However, with two points for a win, both the Serengeti Giants and the Kilimanjaro Aces will be looking to close the small gap that has opened up between themselves and the leaders. For the Ngorongoro Titans, it will be a case of focussing on getting that first win on the board when the action restarts and then looking to generate some momentum.

Ivan Ismail, who plays for the Tembo Warriors, currently tops the run-scoring chart with 127 runs from three innings. With a top-score of 59, two half-centuries, a strike rate of 123.30 and an average of 42.33 it is safe to say the 20-year-old produced a strong finish to his 2020. However, Aces’ batsman Arshaan Jasani is hot on the leading run-scorers heals with a run tally of 110 at an average of 36.67.

Giants’ bowler Issa Safari sits at the top of the wicket-taking charts with ten wickets finishing the first round with one five-wicket haul, an average of 6.70 and a strike rate of 10.9. Safari’s figures come alongside an impressive economy rate of 3.69. Riziki Kizito and Vishal Patel of the Warriors are tied for second place on the wicket-taking charts as both bowlers have taken eight wickets.

Whilst the dates of round two are yet to be confirmed on the Tanzania Cricket Association website, there will be a lot to look forward to when the action does restart.
