Taichung Warriors win the 15th Taiwan Annual Cricket Cup

Taichung Warriors and the Taiwan Stars compete for the 15th Taiwan Annual Cricket Cup in Chiayi City on the 18th October 2020. However, before the final, the tournament saw eight teams compete for the title over the course of the weekend-long tournament played at the Yunsan baseball fields.

Before both the Warriors and the Stars made it through to the final, the teams had to make it past the semi-finals. The Stars made it through their group stage undefeated but had to keep their momentum as they came up against the Hsinchu Titans. The Stars continued to impress however as they beat the Titans by 7 wickets, with Amir Sohail (4-21) and Muntazir Abrar (46) making impressive contributions during the victory.

Meanwhile, the Warriors came up against the as-yet-undefeated Chiayi Game Swingers who had topped their group. The Warriors batted first in the semi-final and opening batsman Rajiuddin Mohammad started the innings off with some impressive striking as he scored 31 from 15 balls. However, the momentum soon changed after the Swingers were able to take early wickets following Mohammad’s early scoring. The middle-order pair of Bivan Singh (42) and Chetan Sharma (55) ensured that the Warriors scored 165-5. 

Anticipation began to build as to who would take out the title as the Stars and the Warriors faced off in the final. The Stars batted first and posted 130-6, with Warriors’ bowler Sharma once again impressing as he finished with figures of 4-24. The Stars dominated the early preceding’s of the chase as the scorecard read 25-7 after six overs, with opening bowlers Amir Sohail and Abrar Hussain both finishing with figures of 3-14. But cricket is never over until the final wicket has been taken or the final delivery has been bowled, which is a sentiment that proved to be true for the Warriors. After his impressive 55 in the Semi-final, Sharma once again impressed with the bat as he scored another half-century helping the team claim an unlikely two-wicket win.
