Scotland to host Blackcaps for Men’s ODI in June 2020, CEO announcement imminent

For the first time in over a decade, the senior men’s cricket team of New Zealand will venture to Scotland and will play the hosts in a one-off One Day International on Friday 26th June 2020. The venue remains TBA and ticketing information will be released this December.

The fixture is the first addition to Scotland’s home Summer Internationals.

Simon Smith, High Performance Manager, said: “We look forward to welcoming New Zealand’s men to Scotland for the first time since 2008. “There is a close bond between our nations, and the clash in Dunedin during the 2015 Cricket World Cup was a special occasion marked fittingly by a closely-fought contest played in typically good spirit.

“Having conquered the world number one team in 2018, this will be an excellent opportunity for our men to knock over the finalist from the last two Cricket World Cups and earn yet another win over an ICC Full Member,” he concluded.

The win against another Test nation is crucial to Scotland fulfilling the performance criteria for ICC Full membership, a quest which took a hit recently with the senior Women’s team recently missing out on qualification for the 2020 T20 World Cup after finishing outside the top two at the recent global qualifier hosted in Dundee.
