Scotland to host Australia and New Zealand in June

Scotland will welcome Australia and New Zealand next year for a total of three matches in June, as both begin tours in the north before travelling to England and Ireland respectively.

The Grange in Edinburgh will host two T20 Internationals and a One Day International, the location where Scotland shocked England in their famous high-scoring encounter in 2018.

Scotland is yet to face Australia in T20I cricket, and by the time they face New Zealand on the 10th of June, it will be over 11 years since their last T20I meeting with the Blackcaps. Scotland and New Zealand last faced off in the fifty-over format at the 2015 World Cup, the Kiwis were tested in a three-wicket victory.

Almost half of Scotland’s team in that match featured in their recent squad that competed in the UAE leg of Cricket World Cup League 2 (CWCL2) last week, and with giant-killing achievements on the resume, Scottish coach Shane Burger believes his side will be more than a test for high-quality opposition.

“The opportunity to play against two of the best teams in the world is an exciting prospect. We have beaten teams of this calibre previously and we will be looking to push them all the way on all occasions.”

Entrenched in CWCL2 play and with the T20 World Cup starting in the following October, the matches will provide a good yardstick for Scotland, as their touring opponents tune up for matches in the new 13-team Superleague.

“Cricket Scotland has set big goals for the year 2020 and this is part of that vision of playing against the world’s best and challenging players and staff to keep improving both on and off the field,” Burger continued.

New Zealand was pencilled in for just one match in late June, though with a change of schedule will now tour two weeks earlier, providing an opportunity for another fixture.
