The planned quadrangular series between Qatar, Nepal, Uganda and Malaysia has been postponed until further notice, sources have told Emerging Cricket. The Qatari government has not approved the series due to COVID-19 restrictions. The tournament was scheduled to begin on 14 December. There has been no indication that the tournament has been cancelled.
Fans of participating national cricket teams will be hoping that the tournament will get the required go-ahead when the COVID-19.
The tournament was set to be Laurence Mahatlane’s debut series as the Ugandan men’s national team coach, following his recent unveiling. Whilst there will be a disappointment about the postponement, Mahatlane will have more time to get to know the Ugandan side. This will give him the opportunity to start moulding the team in alignment with his philosophies. When the next time the Ugandan national team will be in the public eye is unclear. However, it will be interesting to see how Mahatlane influences the way in which the East African team play.
One positive despite the postponement of competitive action is the resumption of the nation’s national training. The resumption arguably signifies the next phase of cricket’s return for the four nations who were to compete against each other. All four countries have important ICC tournament commitments scheduled for next year, whether in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 or in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League.
