Nepal star joins elite club in victory at ACC Premier Cup

Nepal all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee has become just the third player to hit six sixes in an over in T20I cricket, smashing 64* in just 21 balls in a victory over Qatar in the ACC Premier Cup.

The 24-year-old all-rounder achieved the feat in the final over of Nepal’s innings in Al Amerat, joining Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard to become the third batter to achieve the feat in men’s T20Is. Herschelle Gibbs and USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra have achieved the same feat in ODIs.

Airee also hit six consecutive sixes in the Asian Games against Mongolia, though the feat was spread across two overs when he smashed the fastest fifty in T20Is in nine balls, breaking Yuvraj Singh’s record of 12 deliveries.

In reply to Nepal’s 210/7, Qatar managed to score 178/9 in their allotment. Skipper Muhammad Tanveer was the top scorer with 63 runs from 33 balls, with Mohammad Ahnaff and Himansu Rathod scored 23 and 22 runs respectively.

For Nepal, Lalit Rajbanshi claimed 2/23 with Airee also claiming 2/34 Dipendra Singh Airee for unsurprising Player of the Match honours.

Nepal are in Group D of the upcoming T20 World Cup alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Netherlands hosted in the Caribbean and USA.
