CAN to review contracts, Nepal officials test COVID-positive

The Cricket Association of Nepal has directed its Contract Classification Committee to review the contracts of its players, which were announced just eight days ago.

CAN had announced their central contracts to 19 women’s cricketers and 18 men’s players where controversies arose, as those in the national team setup were unsatisfied with gradings of players, with disparity also between men’s and women’s players’ contracts.

Several players who performed consistently well for the national team last year missed out on central contracts altogether, while inaugural contracts for the women’s national team were criticised by cricketers and the media due to the difference in sums.

A letter of attention was passed to CAN by both the men’s and women’s teams to review the contracts, while Cricket Players Association Nepal (CPAN) also requested Nepal Sports Council, the chief sports governing body, to think upon the decisions made by CAN.

CAN will review their previous contracts after receiving a new report from the Contract Classification Committee, with the reviewed contracts said to be passed in their next board meeting.

To compound matters in the country, two members of CAN have also tested COVID-19 positive. President Chatur Bahadur Chand along with the General Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel fell ill after returning to Kathmandu from Chitwan, after the board meeting last week.

CAN has requested other officials and staff who were in close contact to stay in quarantine.
