Nepal announce squad for CWCL2 series

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 20-Man preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League Two (CWCL2). The ninth round of the CWCL2 series is going to be played between Scotland, Namibia, and Nepal next month, in July.

Middle-order batsman Prithu Baskota has earned his berth in the squad after his standout performance in the domestic one-dayers. He was also a member in the closed camp of the ICC CWCL2 series, which was supposed to be played against the USA and Oman, back in March.

Likewise, medium-fast bowler Bikram Sob, who performed admirably in the domestic one day tournaments, will also participate in the training camp. Young openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh from last series have been picked once more, with Sharad Vesawkar, the experienced middle-order batsman, called up for the camp. He was not present in the T20I squad last month in the Tri-Nations series with the Netherlands and Malaysia.

Young cricketers Kamal Singh Airee and Sushan Bhari who had their ODI debut last year in CWCL2 will also join the closed camp, along with Kushal Malla and Sandeep Jora. Nepal is set to play their first ODI series under head coach Dav Whatmore whose stint commenced with a victorious Tri-series win.

Currently, the Nepal national team is preparing for the series despite the nation being locked down amidst Covi-19. The fixtures for the upcoming are yet to be formally announced.

Nepal Squad: Gyanendra Malla, Kushal Bhurtel, Aarif Sheikh, Paras Khadka, Dipendra Singh Airee, Aasif Sheikh, Kushal Malla, Binod Bhandari, Karan KC, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sompal Kami, Kamal Singh Airee, Abinash Bohara, Sandeep Jora, Shahab Alam, Sushan Bhari, Sharad Veshawkar, Bikram Sob, Pawan Sarraf, Prithu Baskota.
