Kyle Coetzer named as first Emerging Cricket Ambassador

Emerging Cricket is happy to announce Kyle Coetzer as its first Ambassador. The Scotland men’s captain will provide exclusive insight to fans of the emerging game as part of a programme that will extend around the globe.

The news comes less than a week before the Aberdeen born right-hander travels to London for a meeting of the ICC Cricket Committee. Chaired by former Indian skipper Anil Kumble, the group is empowered to make recommendations on cricket playing issues to senior echelons of the ICC. Bringing together various stakeholders in the modern game, including players, umpires and the media, Coezter was appointed as Associate representative last May.

Coetzer made his ODI debut for Scotland in 2008 against England at The Grange. On Tuesday he played his hundredth white ball international for the Saltires and has amassed over 3,000 runs with a top score of 156, scored against Bangladesh during the 2015 World Cup. It remains the highest score for an Associate batter against a Full Member. He took on the captaincy in 2016 after the retirement of Preston Mommsen who left the game to take up employment in the property industry.

“I am very excited to join EC as its first Ambassador as part of a great initiative to bring fans closer to the emerging game from our website, podcast and social channels,” Coetzer said of his appointment.

A father of two young girls Kyle currently balances family duties with playing contracts for clubs in England and Scotland and his national commitments. He also holds various coaching positions as well as owning his own equipment brand, Zeus Cricket.

Coetzer was also instrumental in the founding of the SCA (Scottish Cricketers Association).

“The gaps between Full Member and Associates have closed to a great extent and this was no more evident in the world cup qualifiers last year in Zimbabwe. There were no fewer than three AM victories over Test nations and a heart-stopping tie between ourselves and Zimbabwe,” he continued. “Later in 2018 there was also a certain result where an Associate team knocked off the number one ranked ODI side.”

After commencing operations in 2018 Emerging Cricket launched its website just prior to World Cricket League Division 2 in April, where founders Daniel Beswick, Nick Skinner and Tim Cutler covered the tournament from host city Windhoek, Namibia.

“By providing meaningful content from those at the coalface of the game’s frontiers; players, coaches, administrators and fans  – where every corner of cricket’s new world is represented and celebrated – our mission is to be the trusted voice of the emerging cricket world, the go-to place for cricket fans to be engaged and inspired by stories from the Associates and beyond”, says former Cricket HK CEO Cutler.

“This will not be possible without harnessing the collective power of passionate people around the globe to contribute to the cause. Alongside others like Kyle we hope to create a global community of Ambassadors providing unprecedented access to cricket’s new world”, he concluded.

Emerging Cricket

Emerging Cricket is a collective of individuals brought together in their passion for the growth of the game outside its traditional centres – to provide news, insight and opinion on the sport beyond the mainstream, at the game’s frontiers; cricket’s new world.
