The Japan Cricket Association has released a statement confirming the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the East Asia Cup. The tournament was set to see the Japan men’s national team compete against the Hong Kong Dragons, China and South Korea.
On the Japan Cricket Association’s website, a joint statement from the associations that were set to compete was released:
After several months of discussions, the four cricket teams to which the East Asia Cup participating teams belong have decided not to hold the 2020 Games.
The main reason was that the global epidemic of the new coronavirus infection restricted travel to countries and forced the tournament to be cancelled.
The decision to cancel the 2020 East Asia Cup is not what everyone wants, but everyone involved will continue to work with a long-term perspective on the re-opening of 2021.’In the future, we plan to focus on holding at least one (preferably twice) tournament for the 2022 Asian Games.
The first step in this plan begins with the creation of a new agreement to replace the basic agreement that expired at the end of 2019. This includes discussions on whether it is possible to hold an international men’s and women’s competition in the same year, and a detailed announcement will be made in the new year.
Whilst it is unfortunate news that the 2020 edition of East Asia cup has been cancelled, it is positive that the governing bodies are keen to ensure that the tournament is rearranged for a later date. Health must come first and when the East Asia cup does occur it promises to be a fascinating tournament that will allow cricket fans an insight into the cricketing talent of a number of largely unknown entities.

This website is quite amazing guys.I think cricket can be a truly global sport (excluding most of Europe though, their love affair with football is too toxic for cricket to have any place there)
