Germany set to host men’s T20I quadrangular series

The Deutscher Cricket Bund (German Cricket Federation) has announced plans to host a T20I quadrangular tournament in May. Germany will play host to the men’s national teams of Spain, France and Norway.

The series is scheduled between May 13th and 16th. Matches will be played at the DCB’s new high-performance centre at Krefeld, the first international fixtures to be played at the facility. It will also be the first time that Germany has hosted a T20I.

Like many Associate cricket fixtures at present, the series is subject to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Should case numbers be too high in May, the DCB will postpone the matches until it is safe to play.

The fixtures will serve as preparations for the European T20 World Cup qualifiers later this year, in which all four nations will participate. Germany will play in Group B, scheduled for June in Finland. Spain, France and Norway will all play in Group A, scheduled for July, also in Finland.

All four nations will be in action for the first time in men’s internationals in over a year. Germany (ranked 33rd) and Spain (42nd) last played T20Is in March 2020 – the two sides drew a two-match series 1-1. Norway (40th) last played at the European T20 qualifiers in 2019, whilst France (unranked) have not played since 2018.

Further details for the quadrangular series, including fixtures and livestreaming, are expected closer to the event.
