Floyd makes his case as Dutch men lose in Pretoria

Slow left-armer Clayton Floyd staked his claim for a place in the Dutch side to take on South Africa on Friday with a solid performance with the ball as the Dutch lost their second warm-up match against a Colts Invitational XI by two wickets at Tuks Oval, Pretoria on Monday.

Floyd claimed four for 33 in six overs, including the first three wickets to fall, to bowl his side back into the match after the Colts, chasing the Netherlands’ 211 for eight off 48 overs, had threatened to run away with the game.

After Friday’s runfest at Centurion this was a much more disciplined effort by the local bowlers in conditions more favourable to them after overnight rain, although opener Max O’Dowd continued his outstanding form with a run-a-ball 56.

Myburgh, Edwards and Ackermann all went cheaply, but Bas de Leede (24), Pieter Seelaar (32) and Saqib Zulfiqar (36) all spent valuable time in the middle, and Shane Snater contributed a breezy, 18-ball 25 not out in the closing stages.

Dayyaan Galiem (two for 22), Jordan Morris (two for 44) and Themba Maupa (two for 47) all played their part in keeping the Dutch scoring within bounds.

Then Louren Steenkamp and Jandre Pretorius got their side off to a flyer with an opening stand of 74 in 15 overs, the Dutch seam attack of Snater, Viv Kingma and De Leede all remaining wicketless, and it was left to Floyd with his triple strike, followed up by another in his next over, to haul the Colts back to 114 for five.

But Voster (30) and Gilson (41 not out) put on 49 for the sixth wicket, and with Gilson managing the lower order the Colts reached their target with nine and a half overs remaining.
