First Emerging Cricket Awards to be announced

Emerging Cricket is launching its first ever series of annual awards to celebrate outstanding play in the Associate game.

Acknowledging the outstanding achievements on the field, a total of ten awards have been adjudged by a panel of Emerging Cricket contributors and independent media representatives, while fans too will have the opportunity to cast their votes in a further two categories.

How the inaugural Emerging Cricket Awards work

With a list of nominees presented, voting was carried out through a 3-2-1 system, where our panellists gave three points to their strongest candidate, two points to their second best, and one to a third player.

A total of ten awards are decided by our panel:

Major Individual Awards:

Associate Men’s Player of the Year
Associate Women’s Player of the Year

Other Individual Awards:

Associate T20I Men’s Player of the Year
Associate T20I Women’s Player of the Year
Associate 50-Over Men’s Player of the Year
Associate 50-Over Women’s Player of the Year
Breakout Associate Men’s Player of the Year
Breakout Associate Women’s Player of the Year

Team Awards:

Men’s Associate Team of the Year
Women’s Associate Team of the Year

Points from the panel were counted for winners in each category, though winners of the major accolades, the Associate Men’s and Women’s Player of Year awards, were then ineligible to win minor awards, even if they finished clear on top.

Our panel consisted of members of Emerging Cricket’s management team and independent members of the media. The independent members included:

  • Bertus de Jong, Cricbuzz
  • Peter Della Penna, ESPNCricinfo
  • Georgie Heath, Freelance
  • Tasneem-Summer Khan, Freelance

Look out over the coming days for a breakout article announcing each winner.

Fans to decide a further two awards

Avid Associate cricket watchers will have the chance to vote for their own award winners across Twitter, the Emerging Cricket Facebook Page and the Emerging Cricket Facebook Group.

Fans can therefore vote up to three times for their top player in each category, with voting to conclude on February 12.

The four nominees of each award were decided by the voting panel votes for the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year Awards.
