Dutch Quartet snapped up for The Hundred

Four Netherlands men’s international players have been signed up for the inaugural season of The Hundred. Colin Ackermann, Roelof van der Merwe, Brandon Glover and Timm van der Gugten have all signed for separate franchises.

The Hundred draft took place behind closed doors on Monday, with the completed squads released over the course of Tuesday. The first associate signing of the day came courtesy of Manchester Originals, who signed spin bowling all-rounder Colin Ackermann. The next Dutch signing was Roelof van der Merwe, with the all-rounder joining London Spirit.

Later in the day, Oval Invincibles announced the signing of Dutch fast bowler Brandon Glover. Glover will link up with Nepali legspinner Sandeep Lamichhane at the London-based franchise. The final associate signing of the day was fellow Dutch quick Timm van der Gugten. The seamer joins the Southampton-based Southern Brave and will play alongside Bermuda all-rounder Delray Rawlins. The new signings bring the total number of associate players in the competition to six.

Speaking to Emerging Cricket, Netherlands head coach Ryan Campbell was delighted at the outcome:

“I’m absolutely thrilled for our Dutch guys to be picked up in The Hundred. I answered a few calls about some of them so I knew there was a fair bit of interest. Roela [van der Merwe], Colin [Ackermann] & Timm [van der Gugten] are just great pros and add to any team they are involved with. I’m extremely happy for Brandon, his record for us has been outstanding and I’m not surprised he was snapped up by Northants and now The Hundred.”

Although they are not selected by a draft, several signings were revealed for the corresponding Women’s franchises. However, no associate women’s player joined the competition in today’s announcements. Currently, three associate players have signed for the women’s tournament: Kathryn Bryce, Sarah Bryce and Abatha Maqsood, all from Scotland.

The Hundred will take place during July and August, with the men’s and women’s tournaments played simultaneously.
