CPL Associate Watch, Day 6: Sandeep dries up boundaries once more

If the Jamaica Tallawahs don’t go deep this season, it won’t be because of their spin attack of Sandeep Lamichhane and Mujeeb ur Rahman, who played key roles in their five-wicket victory over Guyana today.

The Nepali/Afghan pair have been nothing short of suffocating. Mujeeb dazzled on Day 6 with his dangerous and unique stump-to-stump mystery bowling, with Lamichhane coming in behind him to personify the “out of the frying pan, into the fire” cliche.

Lamichhane’s domination on Day 6 was nearly as complete as his domination on Day 5, giving him two full innings of bowling since he’s last conceded a boundary. From the start of his innings, Sandeep bowled an aggressive line, consistently landing the ball at or near the line of the stumps. Lefties saw all googlies, righties saw nearly all leg-breaks, and most contact was played into the off-side for singles.

Three balls after Mujeeb sliced through Nicholas Pooran with his deadly carom ball, Lamichhane ended Sherfane Rutherford’s innings when the lefty tried to whack him across the line. The ball got the top-edge and was caught comfortably along the offside of the circle. Lamichhane ended with figures of 1-2 off four overs in Jamaica’s 5-wicket win over the Amazon Warriors.

Lamichhane was the only Associate player in action on Day 6, but stay tuned for Day 7, which features Associate internationals across both matches.
