Coronavirus control measures halt Malaysia T20 Super Series, playoffs postponed

Due to a recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia a raft of restrictions to movement within the country have been imposed, which has led to the postponement of the ongoing MCA T20 Super Series.

As announced by the Malaysian Cricket Association late Monday night local time, the federal government’s ‘Conditional Movement Order Control’ will affect all sporting related activities. 

The act comes into place on Wednesday and is scheduled to last until the 27th October which means that ‘the MCA T20 Super Series will have to be halted at this juncture’, according to the statement.

Fans had been enjoying the global broadcast and high quality on show from Malaysia’s best players in the Super Series, as the tournament approached the finals.

Prior to the commencement of the T20 competition, the same four teams also competed in the inaugural Malaysian T10 Bash which was won by the Northern Strikers.  

The postponed playoffs will see the Northern Strikers coming up against the Central Smashers and the Western Warriors facing off against the Southern Hitters.

The event has been heralded by onlookers for its innovative approach, with each of the four sides mandated to select one of the Malaysian women’s national players.
