Bermuda Cricket Board have announced a delay of the start of their T20 domestic league, now scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 26.
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to disrupt activities on the island nation, and cricket has been no exception. As in 2020, the BCB will hold only a T20 competition this year. The league also cites “availability of players and economic return per match and field availability” as factors for the decision.
The 2021 season will feature two rounds which include promotion and relegation of “two up and two down.”
The board also announced the transfer of several players. Defending T20 Premier League champion Southampton Rangers SC acquired Randy Bean and Bermuda U-19 Tai Cariah, but lost Bermuda Men’s team veteran Allan Douglass Jr to St George’s CC, who look to make a push, adding former Bermuda U-19 Jabari Darrell. Devonshire Recreation Club (Drewonde Bascome, Rudell Pitcher) joined Southampton and St George’s to round out the most active teams during the preseason.
Also on the move are Sharye Tavares-Gibbons (Bailey’s Bay CC), Darrien Gibbons (PHC), Gianni Santucci (St. David’s CCC), Bermuda Men’s team batsman Tre Manders (Western Stars), and Dean Stephens (Willow Cuts CC).
The 2020 season saw the BCB livestream their matches on YouTube, and regularly provide detailed game related content on their social media channels, a practice they intend to continue in 2021.
